Why would a balloon that has expanded because of heat, burst loudly in an explosion when popped?

Its a lame chemistry question that I cannot figure out. Its a fake story, this guy is given balloons, probably filled with He, that expand when he goes out into the heat, because the pressure and stuff, so then somebody shoots an arrow at it that bursts the balloon in a deafening, yellow and orange explosion. Whyyyyyyyyy?
